iryo is the commercial brand of the railway operator ILSA, a consortium formed by the airline Air Nostrum and the Italian state-owned operator Trenitalia.
Compared to other operators such as AVE, AVLO or Ouigo, iryo offers a premium service on board its trains. The Frecciarossa trains currently running in Spain connect Madrid (Atocha station) via Zaragoza to Barcelona (Barcelona Sants station). In just 2:30 hours you will cover almost 500km.
The fleet is composed of 20 ETR 1000s that correspond exactly to the Frecciarossa 1000, trains that differ in being quiet, sustainable and fast. Iryo's Frecciarossa trains travel at high speeds of up to 360km/h and are made of 95% recyclable materials, saving 80% CO2 per passenger per journey. One of the most sustainable trains in Europe!

Iryo train timetables and routes
The main iryo route is Madrid - Barcelona with 16 trains a day (1 train every hour!). The first train to the Catalan city from the Spanish capital leaves at around 05:55 and arrives at its destination at around 08:40.

What are the differences between iryo, Ouigo, Renfe and Avlo?
Fares are not always the same and this depends on many factors such as promotions, how close to the departure date the booking is made, whether the cheapest fares have already been sold and much more.
Regarding the cost of the ticket, with Avlo tickets start at €7 for the Madrid-Barcelona route. Ouigo tickets for the Madrid-Barcelona route start from 9€. Renfe tickets do not include the low-cost option while iryo train prices vary according to the 4 types of comfort zones: Infinite, Singular Only YOU, Singular and Initial.
The minimum average journey time between Madrid and Barcelona is similar for all trains: 2 hours and 30 minutes as well as the speed at which the trains travel.
Regarding the food area, Renfe trains are equipped with a cafeteria carriage and for Premium Comfort class the ticket includes snacks and welcome drinks served at the seat. Ouigo has a restaurant car while Avlo does not offer catering options but only vending machines. iryo, on the other hand, offers bar and restaurant service on board.

Should I print my iryo ticket?
There is no need to print out your tickets. You can keep them and show them to the ticket inspector in electronic format directly from your smartphone. Kombo will send you an e-mail with your e-ticket.
Can I cancel my iryo ticket?
Yes, you can cancel your journey before departure and receive a refund in a variable percentage according to the travel fare you have chosen.
Can I change my iryo ticket?
You can usually change your iryo ticket before departure by paying a price difference. Before purchasing, it is advisable to check the changes allowed for each type of ticket.
Can I reserve my iryo train seat?
Yes, each passenger is allocated a numbered seat at the time of booking.
The iryo train is delayed what can I do?
In the event of a change to the time stated on the ticket before the departure date, iryo will make every effort to inform the customer as soon as possible and in the most convenient manner.
In the event that the passenger is delayed by at least 60 minutes at the arrival station in relation to the time stated on the ticket for reasons attributable to iryo, iryo will compensate the passenger for this delay, without the passenger losing his/her right to carriage, under the following conditions
50% of the fare of the ticket used, in the event of a delay in arrival at the destination of more than 60 minutes.
100% of the fare of the ticket used, in the event of a delay in arrival at the destination of more than 90 minutes.

How much luggage can I take on the iryo train?
You can transport up to three pieces of luggage: two suitcases not exceeding the dimensions of 85 x 55 x 35 cm each and one hand luggage not exceeding the dimensions of 36 x 27 x 15 cm.
What are the conditions for transporting bicycles?
You may bring a folding bicycle or a conventional bicycle on board at no additional cost, which must be disassembled and stored in a bag not exceeding the dimensions of 90 x 120 x 40 cm.
Can I bring my pet on board iryo trains?
Yes, by purchasing the special extra service when booking, your pet can travel with you. Your pet must weigh no more than 10 kg and must be placed in a pet carrier no larger than 60 x 35 x 35 cm.
Can children under the age of 18 travel alone on iryo trains?
No, for safety reasons iryo only allows children under the age of 18 to travel when accompanied by an adult.
Are there any discounts for children?
Certainly: children up to 3 years of age travel free on iryo's Frecciarossa trains, while children between 4 and 13 years of age can take advantage of a discounted fare.
What services are available for persons with reduced mobility on iryo trains?
By contacting iryo in advance you can receive assistance on board and at the station. Please also note that all iryo trains are suitable for passengers with reduced mobility. Each train has ramps to facilitate boarding for passengers in wheelchairs, two seats reserved for disabled passengers in carriage 3, accessible toilets and wide corridors that allow passengers to reach the dining car independently from their carriage.
