On the main routes such as Milan-Naples, there are around 90 different departures per day. Departures from Rome at 7:20, 11:20 and 13:20 and from Milan at 10:58, 11:25 and 15:00. You can travel in 2 hours and 59' non-stop from city centre to city centre! Frecciarossa train timetables are updated twice a year (around December for the winter timetable and June for the summer timetable).

Frecciarossa trains allow you to reach winter resorts such as Bolzano, Trento, Oulx and Bardonecchia from Naples. While for summer resorts you can reach Puglia and cities such as Lecce and Bari with departures from Milan.

What are the ticket prices for traveling on Frecciarossa trains?

On the Frecciarossa you have 3 fares to choose from, which vary based on flexibility and the travel class chosen:

Basic

The Basic ticket allows you to have maximum flexibility. You can change the name, date and time of your ticket for free an unlimited number of times before departure. After departure, and until the next hour, you can request the change only once. If you cancel the trip you are entitled to a refund with a 20% deduction. The basic fare has different price ranges and the seats available in each price range are limited.

Economy

Trenitalia Economy fare tickets offer you savings and flexibility. It is also possible to change the departure date or time only once until the train departs, by choosing a ticket for the same train category or service level and paying the difference compared to the price of the previous one. You can also change your name at no additional cost and as many times as you want, up until the train leaves. There are no refunds if you wish to cancel your ticket

Superconomy

Trenitalia's Super Economy fare tickets are by far the cheapest tickets, but also the least flexible: neither changes nor refunds nor access to a train other than the one booked is permitted. Simply put, if you don't take the train you booked, you lose your ticket. The only change allowed is that of the name.

Standard

The Standard level allows you to travel at low cost with high speed. The service has ergonomic armchairs with reclining backrests, a folding table and free Wi-Fi. You will be able to enjoy the trip for a small price.

Premium

with the Frecciarossa Premium level you can enjoy ergonomic leather seats, reclining backrests, a space between seats of 106 cm and welcome service with sweet or savory snacks and drinks. Divider elements and luggage space ensure a high level of comfort.

Business

Executive

What is the difference between Le Frecce?

The Frecce trains (Frecciarossa, Frecciargento and Frecciabianca) share a higher level of service and comfort than Intercity, Eurocity and regional trains and are different in terms of connections and speeds reached.

Frecciarossa (AV)

The flagship trains of Trenitalia's high-speed (AV) service. They are capable of speeds of 300 km/h and operate 187 daily connections with frequent departures. Frecciarossa trains operate on the Turin - Salerno, Venice - Turin, Trieste - Turin and Milan - Bari routes.

Frecciargento (AV)

They offer 48 daily connections and are capable of reaching a maximum speed of 250 km/h. The Frecciargento travel on the Rome - Trieste, Naples - Bolzano, Rome - Genoa, Rome - Lecce and Rome - Reggio Calabria routes.

Frecciabianca (AV)

They offer 42 daily connections and are capable of reaching a maximum speed of 250km/h. Frecciabianca travel on traditional lines and connect medium and large centers that are not reached by the high-speed network. Frecciabianca trains run on the Milan - Taranto, Venice - Bologna, Rome - Reggio Calabria, Genoa - Rome and Turin - Ancona routes.

Intercity (IC)

Convenient and widespread means with 100 daily connections you can reach small, medium and large cities arriving directly at your destination, without changing. They circulate on the Milan - Lecce, Milan - Palermo, Rome routes up to Calabria and Sicily, arriving in the centers of the southern coast.

Eurocity (EC)

Those are daytime trains of an international nature and connect cities that are part of different European countries. They offer a convenient and fast way to go across the Alps and visit some of the most beautiful cities in Switzerland (Geneva, Brig, Basel, Bern, Montreux and Lausanne), Germany (Munich, Frankfurt and Freiburg) and Austria (Villach, Salzburg, Vienna).

What is the difference between the Frecciarossa 1000 and other trains?

Frecciarossa 1000 is the most modern train in the Trenitalia fleet and is also the fastest of the Frecce di Trenialia trains. Designed to travel in Europe, Frecciarossa 1000 can reach a maximum speed of 400 km/h thanks to the 16 powerful engines distributed over all the carriages, making it a train capable of always making the most of its grip on the tracks. It connects cities such as Turin, Milan, Paris, Lyon, Reggio Emilia, Bologna, Florence, Rome, Naples and Salerno, even reaching Potenza and Taranto.

How much luggages can I take on the Frecciarossa?

Trenitalia's luggage regulations are not as strict as other means of transport, such as aeroplanes or buses. Trenitalia does not set limits on the number of bags or the size of suitcases allowed on board as long as they do not get in the way of other passengers. Obviously, remember to carry a non-excessive amount of luggage and suitcases, bearing in mind that space is limited.

How do I choose my seat when booking the Frecciarossa?

On Frecciarossa, Frecciargento and Frecciabianca trains, you can choose your seat by paying €2 for each seat selected. If you do not make your seat choice, the system will provide a free random seat allocation.

Is it possible to eat on Frecciarossa trains?

Frecciarossa trains are the best served trains due to the presence of the restaurant usually located in the central carriage of the train.

At the FRECCIABistrò restaurant you can eat anything and sit comfortably at dedicated tables. There are regional dishes, vegetarian and children's menus.

On some Frecciarossa trains you can take advantage of the Easy Bistrò, comfortably purchasing at your seat, tasty products and menus designed for every moment of the day.

Can minors travel unaccompanied?

Children and teenagers under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. For the journeys of teenagers aged 14 and 17, persons with parental authority must ensure that the teenagers carry all the necessary documents for travelling alone by notifying the on-board staff.

FAQ Frecciarossa

Do I need to print out my Frecciarossa train tickets?

You do not need to print your ticket in order to travel: simply show it from your smartphone to the bus driver. The PDF format that you will receive by e-mail will be sufficient for you to board. Remember to charge your device to show your ticket at the checkpoint. Kombo only sends tickets by e-mail, so they are provided to you in electronic format. Once received, you can print it out at home or download it directly to your smartphone or tablet.

Do I need an identity document to travel on Frecciarossa?

To board Frecciarossa you need a valid identity document (national identity card, passport, residence permit, etc.) corresponding to your ticket.

What happens if the booked train is delayed?

In the event of an arrival delay of between 30 and 59 minutes, Trenitalia grants you as compensation a voucher equal to 25% of the ticket price which can be used within 12 months to purchase a new ticket.

In the event of a delay in arrival between 60 and 119 minutes and 50% of the ticket price for a delay of at least 120 minutes.

How do I access the train once at the station?

We recommend that you go to the station at least 15 minutes before the departure of the train. If you have not yet purchased your ticket and wish to pick it up at the station, then try to arrive at least an hour earlier to avoid long queues. The doors of the Frecciarossa trains close 1 minute before departure, so remember to arrive on time and in plenty of time!

What are the conditions for changing or cancelling a Frecciarossa ticket?

We know how complicated it can be to cancel a ticket and get a refund when you no longer wish to travel. At Kombo, we want to offer you the best experience and we know that ease of cancellation and change is crucial. You can request a refund for your Basic fare ticket up to the departure time of the booked train, with a 20% deduction. After the departure of the train, refunds are not permitted.
