Lyria in brief

TGV Lyria is the name of the rail transport company of the SNCF and its Swiss equivalent, the Chemins de Fer Fédéraux (CFF). Its aim is to link the two countries economically, ecologically and quickly. Its lines serve more than 30 towns and cities across the eastern part of the Ile-de-France region and Switzerland, with the comfort of a high-speed train (TGV). It will take you only 3 hours and 15 minutes to reach Geneva from Paris.

Where can you go with Lyria?

Lyria provides a link between France and Switzerland. Lyria offers 4 direct routes:

  • Paris-Geneva via Lausanne, Bellegarde, Nurieux and Bourg-en-Bresse

  • Paris-Lausanne via Vallorbe, Frasne, Mouchard, Dole, and Dijon

  • Paris-Zurich/Basel via Mulhouse, Belfort-Montbéliard and Dijon

  • Marseille-Geneva in the summer period via Bellegarde, Lyon Part-Dieu, Avignon and Aix-en-Provence

This TGV provides an optimal connection, as fast as it is comfortable, which can satisfy both regular travellers looking for a practical and fast itinerary, and occasional holidaymakers setting out to discover a new country.

What types of TGV Lyria tickets are available?

The offers on board the TVG Lyria are almost the same as the offers on the TGV Inoui. There are 3 comfort classes available:

  • Standard: from 29€. These tickets allow you to travel in second class at a competitive price. These are variable price tickets, which will tend to increase as the departure date approaches. Therefore, the earlier you book, the more likely you are to get a low price.
A second class ticket is therefore the perfect choice if you want to travel by train for maximum value for money. It gives you access to comfortable coaches, but also to the bar car with snacks, meals and drinks. You also have access to free wifi on all Lyria lines.

  • Standard 1st: from 49€. This fare gives you access to first class seats. These offer more legroom and greater comfort, including reclining seats. With this ticket, you will benefit from the same options as with the Standard ticket, as well as access to the Grand Voyageur Lounge in Paris Gare de Lyon station.
As with second class fares, the price of the Standard 1st ticket increases as the departure date gets closer.

  • Business 1st: from 205€. This ticket gives you access to a private, quiet 1st class car with specially trained staff to give you the best possible welcome. You will also be offered a full catering service, specially prepared by a Michelin-starred chef, with service at the seat and drinks at your discretion.
The Business 1st offer is available on weekdays, as well as on Sundays for lunch and dinner, on the Paris-Geneva, Paris-Dijon, Basel-Zurich and Paris-Lausanne routes. This offer is discontinued at the end of July and throughout August.
The price is fixed, i.e. it does not vary according to demand or the period in which you book it (from 229€ on the Paris-Zurich route and from 205€ on the other routes).
Another bonus with this fare is that you can use this ticket on any other train during the day to the same destination - although it's still recommended that you exchange it first to guarantee a seat.

Not sure to take a Lyria?

Jules from Kombo tested the TGV Lyria on the Paris-Geneva and Paris-Zurich lines.

Is it possible to eat on board TGV Lyria trains?

All TGV Lyria trains have a bar car and a mobile catering service, accessible to all passengers. You will discover the "LE DELI" catering concept offering a variety of drinks, sweets and snacks, but also hot and gourmet meals, combining French and Swiss culinary specialities.

How can you travel with your family on board TGV Lyria trains?

Family areas are available in second class. These "Carré Famille" (Family Square) are composed of 4 seats facing each other. A table allows children to draw, play or have their meal. This table can also be raised to free up space for a pushchair. If the folding table is not necessary, you can also choose the "Club 4", identical to the "Family Square" but with a fixed table. There is also a nursery close to the family areas. This means you can travel with your children in complete peace of mind.

Children under 4 years of age can travel on your lap free of charge. If you want a seat of your own, the Baby Pass fare is available for 15€ in second class (12€ for Marseille-Geneva), and 23€ in first class (17€ for Marseille-Geneva). Children from 4 to 11 years old must have a ticket, on which they receive a 30% discount compared to the adult fare.

Is Wi-Fi available on board TGV Lyria trains?

Wifi is available in all Lyria TGVs, for all comfort classes, free of charge.

How much and what type of luggage can I bring with me?

As with the Inoui TGVs, TGV Lyria does not impose any weight restrictions or a specific number of baggage items. The company is simply appealing to your common sense: you must be able to carry all your luggage yourself and stow it on the train without disturbing other passengers.

The following are accepted as luggage, with a limit of 1 item per passenger:

  • Bicycles, provided that they are folded or that their wheels are removed, and stored in covers (maximum 130 cm x 90 cm)

  • Folded children's pushchairs

  • Skis stored in a bag, with a maximum of one pair of skis per traveller

  • Scooters, electric or not, folded or dismantled

  • Waterboards or snowboards stored in a bag (maximum 130 cm x 90 cm)

  • Musical instruments in a case (maximum 130 cm x 90 cm)

  • Manual or electric wheelchairs of reduced mobility passengers; these persons are allowed to keep it with them, whether or not they remain in their wheelchair during the journey

How to travel with my pet?

Pets may accompany you on your journey on TGV Lyria trains. Small animals must be carried in a closed bag or dog cage and not exceeding 45 cm x 30 cm x 25 cm. They must be placed on your knees or at your feet. You will have to pay a ticket at a flat rate of €7.

Larger dogs on a lead can also travel on board. They must be muzzled throughout the journey and placed at your feet, for a flat fee of €20.

Unfortunately this option is not yet available on Kombo but will be soon.

How can I change or cancel my TGV Lyria tickets?

Depending on the type of ticket purchased, the conditions for changing or cancelling TGV Lyria tickets differ. There are 3 types of flexibility on TGV Lyria:

  • Not changeable: This is the cheapest fare as it does not offer any flexibility, i.e. you cannot cancel or exchange your ticket. It is available in 2nd class.

  • Conditionally changeable: These tickets are refundable up to departure, with a 30€ deduction per ticket. You can also make a free exchange up to 7 days before departure. After this period, an exchange fee of 25€ will be applied. The difference in price between the new ticket and the old one will be charged to the customer. It is available in 2nd class and Standard 1st.

  • Unconditionally changeable - 100% flexible: These tickets can be cancelled and exchanged, without charge, up to 2 hours after departure. It is available in 2nd class and Business 1st.

These different fares and conditions are shown to you at the time of booking, as well as in your after-sales area after ordering. We've also put together a guide on how to cancel your train tickets easily.
